Nights Like This

We just got here and you wanna go home
You don't like the way that I'm looking at you
Buy a drink for yourself 'cause you think it might help
Elbows tethered to the bar 'til we get back to the car
And to think that you've spent two years of your life on this
Suppressed emotion always comes to life on nights like this
Maybe it's fleeting, maybe you'll remember that you are thankful to have someone to share your bed with after all
Someone catches your eye from across the room
And you wonder what it'd be like to be with them instead
Maybe you'd share a joke with your mutual friends
Always something new to say always laughing through the pain
And to think that you've spent two years of your life on this
Suppressed emotion always comes to life on nights like this
Maybe it's fleeting, maybe you'll remember that you are thankful to have someone to share your bed with after all
It was not any better with anyone else
It will never be better until you're honest with yourself:
You love falling in love, you hate settling in, you fear the risk of losing sight of dreams you never pursued
And to think that you've spent two years of your life on this
Suppressed emotion always comes to life on nights like this
Maybe it's fleeting, maybe you'll remember that you are thankful to have someone to share your bed with after all

Letters Hidden

When we were moving again I stumbled across a box of love letters I'd kept hidden. I forgot they were there.
I couldn't throw them out, just packed them up in the truck. When we get to the new place across town I'll just hide them again.
I don't long for former lovers
I only wanna be with you
But sometimes I'm still looking backwards, thought it might not do much good
Compare where I'm at to my past self, to see if I've learned what I should
There's parts unknown left to explore
I hope I've grown enough to hold on to
It's just harder getting older and saying goodbye to your youth
When saying goodbye to your youth means saying goodbye to things you didn't do
I hope that you'll be here with me as I try to make up for lost time
I hope that I get it right, and your letters I won't have to hide
But sometimes I'm still looking backwards, thought it might not do much good
Compare where I'm at to my past self, to see if I've learned what I should
But sometimes I'm still looking backwards, I know it might not do much good
Compare where I'm at to my past self

Jailbird

Let's see just how long until you figure out
The faults that I have are what have kept me in this town
And to pass the time I sought destructive love
A look into my past will rightly scare you off
I know I'm no good but I'd like to have the chance
To be thrown away by someone as beautiful as you
This may go down one day as your biggest mistake
And I may call you drunk one night and just ask you to stay
Let's keep it secret, let's keep it safe
I want to be alone, but I want you here
I've grown tired of inconsistency
But I think your love may hold the key
So just take one long look at me
And realize what it is you need
I've got nothing left to give
But I'll take your love, I'll make it fit
I will do my best not to weigh you down
'Cause I've gotten used to the idea of having your around
I probably won't do right by self
And I may require too much help
The cause was lost long before your showed up
And I understand if I'm not worth your time
And you'd be smart to walk away
Just don't be pissed off if I linger while waiting for your mind to change
